You can edit most Zotero settings through the Zotero Settings window or the Zotero Connector Settings window in your browser. However, both Zotero and Zotero Connector support additional hidden settings. These settings may have received less testing and/or be intended for more advanced use. Learn more at Zotero.org
Below are two examples of settings you can adjust, "File names" and "Columns".
Zotero automatically renames files with names based on information in the citation such as title, author, etc. You can choose the file names yourself as follows:
Edit → Preferences → General → File renaming → "Customize Filename Format ..."
Then choose the information you would like to appear in the file name.
Items in the central pane can be sorted in several ways, such as title, creator, or the date they were added to your library. To sort items, click any of the column headings at the top of the central pane.
If you click "Title," all of your items will be sorted alphabetically by title. Clicking a heading multiple times will toggle between ascending and descending sorting. (The heading displays an up or down arrow as appropriate.)
Zotero displays columns for Title, Creator, and Attachments in the central pane. You can change which fields are displayed by right-clicking the column headings and selecting fields from the drop-down menu.
By default, the fields in the central pane are also arranged from left to right in the order they appear in the drop-down menu. You can rearrange them by dragging and dropping the headings. To restore the default order, select "Reset Column Order" from the drop-down menu.
