Formatting your thesis in Word

This guide is primarily intended for those who use the Library's thesis templates in Word, but may also be useful for those who have chosen not to use the templates.

Choose how many pages are displayed

When creating your document in Word, it can be useful to display several pages on the screen. Viewing several pages at a time can give you a sense of your overall layout.

View two pages

  1. Go to View > Print Layout.

  2. Place your cursor in the text of the first page you want to view in multi-page view.

  3. Click on ‘Multiple pages’ in the ‘Zoom’ section. By default, two pages are displayed side by side.

View multiple pages

  1. Go to View > Print layout.

  2. Place the cursor in the text of the first page you want to display in multi-page view.

  3. Click on ‘Zoom’ in the ‘Zoom’ section; the Zoom tool/window opens.

  4. Select ‘Multiple pages’, click on the icon below where you made the selection, and choose the number of pages to be displayed (max 2x4 pages).

  5. Click on OK.

View single page

  1. Go to View > Print layout.

  2. Place the cursor in the text of the page you want to view.

  3. Click on ‘One page’ in the ‘Zoom’ section.
